Campus Dining FAQs

Will all students participate in the all access meal plan?

All students will participate in the all access plan. There will be a comprehensive fee for room and board for all students beginning in the fall of 2017.

What is the cost of the comprehensive fee, and the fee for students living off campus?

The comprehensive Room and Board fee for students living in the dorms for the 2017/18 academic year will be $12,900. Students living off campus will be given all access to Vassar dining for $3,900.

Is the meal plan required for students living off campus?

Students living off campus will also participate in the meal plan and will have access to all dining locations and meal exchanges.

Will students living in the Co-ops and Ferry be required to participate on the meal plan?

Yes, all students will participate in the all access meal plan.

Can I opt out of the meal plan or will any exemptions be made?

Exemptions from the board plan will be rare and based on significant considerations such as health conditions that cannot be accommodated by the college’s dining services provider.

Will students have access to “cook your own” supplies?

Students will have access to a meal exchange at the Express during the weekend hours for “cook your own” ingredients.

What accommodations are there for students with special dietary needs? Is there a designated area for students with allergies?

The Bon Appétit regional manager of nutrition will assist students with allergy or medical conditions and an executive chef, on site daily, will work closely with students to ensure they have access to appropriate foods. There will also be a destination in the main dining hall, known as the “Oasis” designed for those students with food allergies, celiac disease, and individuals managing food intolerances.

Will there be a separate area for Kosher and Halal?

The new Kosher Station in the main dining hall will be in front of an actual kosher kitchen. Halal meats will be available in the dining center at designated stations.

Is the Food Truck included in the meal plan?

The Food Truck will be open for 5 dinners a week, Sunday – Thursday, and is included in the plan as a meal exchange, with a rotating location schedule.

Where are meal exchanges available?

Meal exchanges are available at the Express, at the Bridge Café, and at the Food Truck. During the week, students will be able to use a meal equivalency once every four hours at any of these locations. On the weekend students will be able to use a meal equivalency at the Express.

Will the Vassar College dining employees keep their positions when Bon Appétit comes on board?

Yes, the VC dining employees are SEIU and CWA employees of the college, and they will continue to work at the dining locations.

Will the student employees at Late Night still have jobs?

Yes, late night will be located at the main dining hall and students will keep their positions.

Will the medical meal plan continue?

The AEO office will continue to work with students to evaluate the need for such requests.

Will there be guest meals?

Students will be able to bring guests to the dining hall. Passes will be able to be checked out at the Campus Activities office.

With all students on the meal plan, will there be enough room to accommodate everyone in the main dining hall?

In addition to the large open space on the first floor, the renovation opened up access to the second and third floor of the dining hall, with plenty of seating in all areas. Also, extended hours will allow students increased flexibility for dining during day and night hours, and meal exchanges at campus dining locations will provide a variety of options for meals.
